Lime hydrate based interior whitewash paint
with minor linseed oil content.

Field of Application

Suitable for authentic limewash/whitewash coats in the field of built heritage preservation (listed buildings), but also applicable in living areas.
Particularly suitable for coating calcareous plasters and for the renovation of existing coats of absorbent mineral paint.

Material Base / Vehicle

Always use containers of same batch or mix different batches, when applying the finishing coat on seamless surfaces.
The product is tintable with Calcino-Color colourants or lime-resistant colourants and dry pigments. Check for pigment compatibility by trial coating.

Suitable Substrates

The substrate must be absorbent, sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent good adhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18 363, section 3.

Substrate Preparation

New Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PI (Lime Plaster),
PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (Cement Mortars):
New plasters must be left untreated for a sufficiently long holding time, minimum 4 weeks for mortar group PI and minimum 2 weeks for mortar groups PII and PIII. Remove sintered skin with Histolith^® Fluat.
Alternative application: Allow new plasters to dry for approx. 24 hours, then Histolith^® Innenkalk may be applied in fresco technique, but with tinted product noticeable colour deviations and stains may occur.

Untreated Coatings of Existing Plaster and Mineral Paint:
Carefully clean the surface. Remove all layers/coatings of low adherence.

Plaster Repairs:
Repair mortars should match the existing plaster in type and texture and must be allowed to set and harden thoroughly before being painted. Treat all repairs with Histolith^® Fluat and rinse with tap water.

Loam Rendering:
Carefully clean the surface and prime with Histolith^® Silikat-Fixativ. Apply a trial coat and check for brownish discolouration.

Natural Stones:
Only absorbent natural stones are suitable substrates. Apply a trial coat and check for compatibility, as possible. Carefully clean the surface. Remove all layers/coatings of low adherence and strengthen sanding natural stones with Histolith^® Silikat-Fixativ.

Note:
Natural stones with water-soluble substances of content may show efflorescence on the paint coat and visible stains may occur.

Mildewed Surfaces:
Carefully wash off all fungal (fungi/mildew/mould) attack. Allow the surface to dry, then use Histolith^® Algenentferner (algae remover) and allow to dry. Prior consultation with our technical assistance is needed to obtain the correct surface coating system.

Method of Application

Apply the product on listed (landmarked) buildings/monuments preferably by paint brush.

Surface Coating System

Apply one priming and one finishing coat of Histolith^® Innenkalk on the prepared substrate, each coat diluted to a max. of 10 % with tap (potable) water, depending on the substrate absorbency.

Prime highly or unevenly absorbent substrates previously with Histolith^® Silikat-Fixativ, diluted in ratio of 2 : 1 to 1 : 1 with tap water, depending on the substrate absorbency.

When coating large-scale, seamless surfaces it is advisable to pre-wet the applied priming coat with tap water (directly before applying the top coat) and to apply the finishing coat to the matt moist surface.

Consumption

Approx. 300 - 400 ml/m² for two coats on smooth substrates. On roughly textured surfaces correspondingly more. Determine the exact amount of material required by coating a test area on site.

Application Conditions

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying:
+8 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.

Drying/Drying Time

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry after 4 - 6 hours and recoatable after 24 hours.
Lower temperatures and higher humidity extend the drying time.

Tool Cleaning

Clean tools/equipment immediately after use with water.

Note

Noticeable colour deviations and stains may occur, depending on substrate condition. A trial coating and check for compatibility with the substrate is advisable. Apply the product wet-on-wet and without interruption in order to avoid lapping.

Protective Measures:
The areas adjoining the surface to be painted should be carefully masked, in particular glass, ceramics, enamel/varnish coatings, clinkers, natural stone, metals and wood.

Disposal

Materials and all related packaging must be disposed of in a safe way in accordance with the full requirements of the local authorities. Particular attention should be made to removing wastage from site in compliance with standard construction site procedures.
Germany:
Product: Do not dispose of with domestic refuse. Contaminated packaging: Empty containers should be taken to an approved waste handling site for recycling or disposal.

EU limit value for the VOC content

of this product (category A/a): max. 30 g/l (2010). This product contains < 1 g/l VOC.
